The parish community takes pride in its inspiring liturgies and music and in its a newly restored and renovated gothic church including a recently installed air-conditioning and heating system. Its magnificent arches and stained glass windows lift a person’s spirit and evoke stillness and peace.
Its musical choirs (children’s and adult) have gained renown. For example, the children’s choir has been admitted to compete in the World Choir Games in Ohio, and its adult choir members sang with the internationally celebrated LA Philharmonic Orchestra Conductor, Gustavo Dudamel Some of IHMC’s choir members sang with 1,000 strong musicians and performers at the Shrine Auditorium.
Being the only church in the area that is open from 7:00 in the morning until nighttime, it has become a place of solace, healing, consolation and wisdom for many residents of area. Many people attribute miracles and answered prayers to this church that promotes popular devotions and religiosity such novenas to Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Our Lady of Penafrancia, Our Lady of Guadalupe, and Divino Nino.
The Filipino community’s annual celebration of Simbang Gabi, a nine-day novena of Tagalog Masses before Christmas at 5:00 in the morning, is the most attended and popular Simbang Gabi in Greater Los Angeles area. This is because of the lively and inspiring Tagalog hymns, the humorous and meaningful homilies, and the joyful fellowship and breakfast after Mass.
The Central Americans’ procession of Santo Entierro on Good Friday has drawn devotees from around Hollywood/Los Angeles area, not only among Hispanics but also among Filipinos and other nationalities.
The church is also known for its warm hospitality, transformative preaching, commitment to Christian service and social justice, fundraising programs, and constant activities. It is humming with life on Sundays from morning to night.
